And lo he ascendeth, and sitteth on the right hand…

Talking of idiot leftists kicking the bucket, as I am wont to do on occasion, I see that the American ‘progressives’’ living saint Gore Vidal liveth no more, having ascended to sit on the right hand of the father, and in no uncertain terms tell him where he is going wrong.
“Every time a friend succeeds, I die a little.”
…wrote the archetypal smug git, or Noam Chomsky with wit and panache, whose passing will be noted more on this side of the Pond than in his native and hated land. Vidal had this annoying habit of getting his mug onto many and various British chat shows, on which he would proceed to sound forth on virtually every topic under the sun. And in doing so he almost singlehandedly brought the term ‘Renaissance Man’ into disrepute.
Vidal could be entertaining in small doses, and I particularly enjoyed his taking down of David Dimblebore during the BBC coverage of the 2008 US presidential election. Now I could embed a YouTube video of that memorable encounter, but there are better televisual portraits of Vidal’s narcissistic character and tangential politics. Take, for example, his HARDtalk interview, as conducted by the gently savaging Stephen Sackur…
There is a second episode of that interview which is also worth watching.
RIP Eugene Luther Gore Vidal (1925–2012)
