I guess this will have been engineered by advisors anxious about his relative inexperience in foreign policy matters, but Democratic nominee-elect (?) Barack Obama has told the American Israel Public Affairs Committee that Israel’s security is “sacrosanct” and “non-negotiable”. The Illinois senator added that he would do “everything” to stop Iran going nuclear.

These are strong words. Given Obama’s past prevarications over the Middle East we might be a little suspicious of this latest speech. But it is nonetheless a positive move by the possible next President of the United States. He has certainly risen in my estimation.

Maybe I should have titled this “Matt Santos backs Israel”
