Loathing can be highly profitable

The anti-Jeremy Clarkson piece I wrote for Comment is Free, which in the two years since it was published has led to a considerable volume of hate mail, was but a few throwaway lines designed to provoke the commenters. If you wish to read something that really picks apart Clackson and his fellow celebrity scribblers, have a look at this essay by former advertising wallah Hopi Sen. It describes how these hugely successful and no doubt ecstatically happy writers are tapping the grumpy zeitgeist of Britain in the noughties.
