In my recent post about the Rochester Sweeps Festival there are a couple of photos with unidentified Morris dance sides. I’ve now determined who are the bowler-hatted chaps and chapesses with the red, green and black kit and painted faces.

This is Alton Morris from Hampshire, and here’s another picture of this team from the recent festival in Rochester. Click on the preview for a higher resolution image in its own window.

Alton Morris are an energetic bordering on aggressive Border Morris side, and the above picture makes them look like the thugs out of Stanley Kubrick’s film A Clockwork Orange. The dancers from Hampshire may not be carrying baseball bats, but they still scare the shit out of me. Maybe they are about to launch a pogrom.
